In your opinion, give me the name of the best coffee you have ever tried from a coffee shop in Seattle.-
ANSWER:
I'm from Seattle and I'm certainly no coffee connoisseur. I go to Tully's coffee sometimes when I am desperate for something to keep me awake.I did have a really good rice milk mocha at a place near Pike place market, but I can't remember what it's called.

QUESTION:
What is there to do in Seattle or surronding area?
I like to go to coffee shops. I like art. I like to paint and draw. I love being outside. I like animals. I like people. I like anything unique. I love organic and health food. I like markets like farmer markets. I love the rain. There are some of my likes, if you think of anything in Seattle that sounds like I might enjoy it please do tell me about it.
I'm not really looking for "big attractions" like amusment parks etc. But if you do know any of those let me know I might enjoy those as well.-
ANSWER:
Well if you like coffee, welcome to the Pacific Northwest. Seattle is home to Starbucks, and you can take a tour of the facility, and to Tully's, where you can also tour the facility. It is also home to Pike's Place Market, which is quite the attraction, known world-wide for it's "flying fish" which are fish (generally salmon) that are thrown from vendor to vendor to the customer. There is a great aquarium in Seattle, and a very nice Art Museum, though it is closed for renovation. Seattle is also the home to the Experience Music Project, and there is a wonderful tour called Seattle Underground which basically is a tour of the early portions of Seattle that has had the rest of the city built on top of it. Seattle also sports the largest ferry system in the world, so you can take a ferry ride to a number of other places, including Victoria, BC, where you can visit Butchart Gardens. Or, if you have a car, take the ferry across to Bainbridge Island, check out Old Man House (Chief Sealth's (Seattle) home), then cruise the Kitsap Peninsula, drive over the Hood Canal Bridge and work your way in to the Hoh Rain Forest (the only temperate rain forest in North America) amid the Olympic Mountains (about 60 miles from Bainbridge Island). As far as art, here in the Northwest, you will find a lot of nature inspired art, with a lot of emphasis on bears and salmon, and a lot of Northwest Native American art.

QUESTION:
Is there difference in taste in regular and decaf coffee?
i've been wanting to cut back on caffeine and am considering decaf coffee. i've never tried it and wanted to ask people's opinions on whether they can tell the difference ie. obvious, subtle, or something else.i've found a regular, everyday coffee i really like (Tully's House Blend) that isn't bitter or acidic and want to buy the decaf if they taste the same.
i cannot live without coffee.....-
ANSWER:
There is a difference in taste between the two. But depending on your taste buds, it's usually not a hugely noticeable difference. Decaf coffee goes through one of two different processes (Swiss Water Processing or European Processing which uses chemicals). Decaf coffee IS regular coffee, BTW, before processing and processing actually leaves about 1-2% of the caffeine in the bean. Because of this additional step of processing, the coffee looses a *bit* of its original flavor and taste. Again, it really depends on how much you are actually looking for the taste difference. I can actually smell the difference between regular and decaf (before its brewed:)) but that's only because I'm a coffee geek! Why not try half regular and half decaf to start and then you can slowly decrease the decaffeinated coffee. that way it will be more gradual of a change, and you save yourself the potential caffeine withdrawal headaches!

QUESTION:
What stocks to buy to profit from coffee price rises?
I believe the soft commodity coffee is about to embark on a major run up in price.I've been burnt by the commodity futures markets before so once bitten twice shy. Rather than go down that path again I would prefer to find coffee related companies that can take advantage of a hike in coffee prices. I suspect companies like Star Bucks and Tully's (and CFPC, JVA) would not do well in such an environment, therefore have come to Yahoo Answers to ask for your kind guidance in finding suitable stocks. Thanks folks.

QUESTION:
For experienced coffee brewers: How many 8 oz cups of coffee can be brewed from 1lb of ground coffee beans?
I am sepcifically interested in feedback from anyone who has worked in a coffeehouse such as Starbucks, Tully's, Peet's. Please indicate if you have that experience. Thanks!-
ANSWER:
The Starbucks "standard" for brewing coffee is two tablespoons of ground coffee per six fluid ounces of water. Starbucks says that they is 45 cups per 1 lb bag.But for even me, that's waaaaay too strong. I use about one tablespoon for two cups.
So you would like 50 or so cups, depending on the amount you use.
(And yes, I have worked at the 'bucks

QUESTION:
Why is it that my stomach hates starbucks, tullys, seattles best or any of these cafe mocha?
Every time I go for the mocha, I suffer mercilessly when i'm at work. What's in that mocha of theirs?
Even Dilettante is killing me but I so addicted.-
ANSWER:
It is the caffeine in all those drinks that is hurting you. Caffeine is notorious for causing stomach complaints and will REALLY cause havoc if you have ulcers. (You might want to get that checked out as stomach pain when drinking coffee is a tell-tale sign of ulcers) Slack way back on your caffeine consumption (even cut it out if you can) or switch to decaf to see if that helps.

QUESTION:
How many milligrams of caffeine are in a cup of coffee?
EXACTLY HOW MANY MILLIGRAMS of caffeine are there in your average cup of joe?-
ANSWER:
There are two different types of coffee beans: robusta and arabica. Coffee that you buy in cans (Yuban, Maxwell House, etc) is Robusta. Specialty/Gourmet coffees such as Starbucks, Peets, Tullys, etc are only arabica beans.Robusta beans have twice as much caffeine as arabica as they are a larger bean (hence ROBUSTa). Anyway, here's your information...
It also depends on how it was brewed, how much beans were used during the brewing process for how much water. So, that is why there is a range for the the following.
7oz of coffee: 80-135 milligrams of caffeine

QUESTION:
Do those coffee shops in Japan sell decaffeinated coffee?
EXCELSIOR, STARBUCKS, TULLY'S, and DOUTOR??Or do you know any other coffee shops where you can drink decaf?
-
ANSWER:
I found the same question asked and answered in Japanese.
http://oshiete1.goo.ne.jp/qa2379348.html
According to the answer, Starbucks seems to have decaf. They call it "day-kah-fay" (decaf) instead of "caffeine-less."Decaf coffee ("caffeine-less coffee") has not become popular mainly because people prefer enjoying good taste of full-bodied fully caffeinated coffee. I found Tully's decaf that has received a good review.
http://www.kanshin.com/keyword/933362
Japanese coffee is weaker??? Perhaps you mean it contains less caffeine? I don't know, but to me Japanese coffee may not taste as "bitter" as Starbucks or Seattle's Best, but certainly it is much "richer" in flavor.

QUESTION:
Young couple considering moving to Seattle, WA. What parts of the city could help us make up our mind?
As a young gay couple considering moving to Seattle, WA from Nashville, TN, what are some areas we should visit in Seattle to give us an idea of what the city is all about?-
ANSWER:
If you want to live in the city, then I suggest looking at the following neighborhoods. You could make a tour of local coffee houses to get a good idea of the vibe in each neighborhood - but you'd have to search out local shops, not the Starbucks or Tully's in each area:Capitol Hill - the traditionally "gay" area of town, but certainly not exclusively so and overall a vibrant neighborhood to live in. Lots of apartments, restaurants, shops etc. Wander down Broadway to get an idea of the vibe.
Queen Anne - closer to downtown. Lower Queen Anne is more condos and apartments mixed with retail. Upper Queen Anne is more residential with a bit more of an upscale retail area. A bit more of a "family" type place.
West Seattle - just 15 minutes from downtown but feels like a completely different place. Slightly more affordable than Queen Anne or Cap Hill, Alki beach there is a great place to hang out on a nice summer afternoon.
Ballard - a former Swedish town that got incorporated into Seattle, there is still a working waterfront here, a bit of scandinavian history and a lot of growth with condos, apartments and retail.
Green Lake - slightly more "yuppie", lots of people like being near the lake for the running/biking trail around the lake and the sports fields at the south end.
Fremont - a bit younger, a bit more funky, this would be the "hippie, free thinker" part of town.
Overall the city is pretty GLBT friendly. Good luck with your visit and your decision!

QUESTION:
Do hiring managers call after interviews?
I had my interview at Tully's coffee recently and I felt it went great. The manager said "I will definitely be calling you" and that I would hear back from them on Tuesday. When I had my interview at starbucks a couple of months ago they hired me during the interview, so I'm kind of worried whether I'll get a call back or not. Is it proper for hiring managers to call you in a few days if they really want to hire you or if they want you do they usually hire you on the spot during the interview?-
ANSWER:
Normally if someone told you he'd be calling, he will stick to his word, unless maybe he forgot, got bogged down with too many interviews, or found someone more qualified.
Wait a few days, then call him back telling him how you are looking foreward to working for the company, and are just following up the interview.

QUESTION:
Should all The Other Wrestlers who were ever Four Horsemen come to The 2012 Hall of Fame Induction?
BQ-1: Which Wrestlers would you want to see there?BQ-2; Which were favorite versions of The Four Horsemen?
BQ-3: Which versions of The Four Horsemen did you dislike?
-
ANSWER:
Well they can use this as a way to get Psycho Sid Vicious Justice and Dean Malenko and Ole Anderson in but nobody else really should be associated with the group. The greatest 4 Horsemen are:
Flair
Arn
Tully
JJ Dillionand the "tall" guy can be either:
Barry Windham
SidThe worst 4 Horsemen were clearly the ones that included:
Paul Roma
Steve "Mongo" McMichaelNow if it wasn't for the tag team of Malenko & Benoit well would anybody care about the late 90's version of the Horsemen? I don't think so but it did go out with a bang with "associate" members like Loose Cannon Brian Pillman, Jeff "I wish I was Flair" Jarratt and Curt Henning.
The greatness the spirit if you will of the FOUR HORSEMEN was more or less based on the movie Wallstreet's main character Gordan Gecko......"GREED IS GOOD". Yeah the movie was made after the original team was formed but that is basically what Flair was......the most arrogant and elitist champion of the world. He did the talking and proved that he was the best but like everything time catches up and the new generation caught him in a trap. And above all else since this was the best of the best it had to have the greatest tag team to ever enter the ring -- Arn Anderson.....let's repeat his name a million times cause he DESERVES it if it wasn't him talking about the greatness of his name well the group probably would not exist cause Ole Anderson is one bitter old man. Tully Blandard is the forgotten one here probably cause he was asked not to return after the Horsemen had a cup of coffee in the WWF but if it was not for him the Brainbusters wouldn't work. Now JJ Dillion was the glue that kept everything together.....the group probably would of fallen apart if not for this man. Flair was great back then but still his drunken rants had to be balanced and JJ Dillion acting as manager or executive financial officer or whatever kept the group grounded.

QUESTION:
What's with these Dunkin' Donuts ads on the side?
Their coffee sucks. I bought that when it came out because the closet Dunkin' Donuts is 15 miles away and I never go there. Thought I'd give it a try. It's just really bad tasting. Can't imagine anyone would prefer it over anything by Starbucks which is just super bitter. My favorite is Tully's. They are the best coffee. Just super smooth taste and about or a bag, same as Starbucks if you buy it in a supermarket.-

QUESTION:
Quickest answer gets 10 points, should i sleep tonight as i have?
Should i sleep tonight as i have alot of coursework to do, i don't feel very tired at the moment and thought i could use the time to get catch up on coursework and use the majority to catch up on coursework and feel like ive achieved something this weekend or just sleep? So, Sleep or Study?
Also if i stay up anyone know any very good ways of staying awake and not feeling so tired (sugar foods, cold water on face etc)?
So, Sleep or Study?
-
ANSWER:
If your coursework is due tomorrow, I'd guzzle a strong coffee (Peet's, Starbucks, Tully's, etc.), finish what you can. However, if it's not all due tomorrow, get about an hour of so worth of work done, then get much-needed sleep.
*Remember that with the coffee---it may just keep you up all night until your class. I used to use it only for that purpose when I had to cram for a paper I'd irresponsibly put off until the last minute.
Also, you'll "crash" from the caffeine/sugar high after.

I am 45 yr old, single with Macular Degeneration. IT has progressed to the point where I no longer feel it is safe to a drive a car. I now depend on public transportation or my feet. I also need Voca Rehab since i no longer can preform my prev job duties. Honestly, I am going out my mind where I live now which is Modesto, Ca. Any advice I will appreciate. Sue,The Modesto area surrounding Davis Community Park would be great for you to live in. Moving out of State will cost yo up to ,000, so maybe staying in town would be more helpful. It is close to the following Opthalmologists, Shopping Malls, Grocery Stores, Libraries, and Colleges. The area along Hwy 99, or bounded by Tully Road, W. Biddsmore Ave, McHenry Ave, and Standiford/Sylvan Ave. is great for busing, and walking to all of these places. Good Luck.

QUESTION:
Why are Starbucks and Seattle's Best so popular?
Their coffee is lousy. For those of us who drink their coffee stright, no cream or sugar, Starbucks and Seattle's Best sucks. It's not smooth at all, and just down right bitter. I guess for those who put tons of stuff in it then it's okay, but for those of us that are lactose intolerant...well, straight up is the only way to go. Besides, I just love the flavor of coffee. Even Kona coffee has gone downhill. Too many people don't know how to roast it and it's lousy now. For some reason, the roasters seem to burn the coffee beans now and I can't figure out why? I do like Starbuck's as a place to go sit and talk, but I just wish they had a decent cup of coffee for us regular/old fashioned cup of coffee people. Geez, even McDonald's coffee is lousy now, at least here in Hawaii, not sure about the mainland.-
ANSWER:
They are so popular because they marketed aggressively.
You are right, it always tasted burned..For my money, Dunkin Donuts has the best coffee and then... (cringe) McDonalds.
However, Starbucks is king in Seattle and Dunkin Donuts has been driven into extincion in this area.
Being a Bostonian, I load up on DD Coffee every chance I get.If you're in the Pac NW, try Tullys.
Less burned, less attitude and a little cheaper.

QUESTION:
What is the job market like in Portland?
I graduated with a business finance degree and I work hard in california but I know I will never be able to afford a home here so I want to move to PDX, I heard its like a smaller more mellow version of SF. What is the job market like there? I know housing is substantially cheaper than LA and SF-
ANSWER:
My husband and I moved from Portland to Phoenix as soon as he graduated because he didn't want to be working at Tully's Coffee for the rest of his life. The economy in Portland is HORRIBLE! Don't move there unless you get a job first! Not to mention, the housing market there IS cheaper than LA and SF, but not much. We want to move back to Portland but we're waiting for my husband to get a job first, and then we'll still probably have to rent for a year or so to afford a DECENT house. Good luck with your job search, though. It's tough these days.

QUESTION:
Tullys vs. Starbucks vs. Seattles Best, which is the best ground coffee I should buy for my single cup cone?
filter? I was looking for a medium (house) type of blend which is easy on the stomach and not too acidic. This would obviously disqualify Peets which is hard on my stomach and very acidic.-
ANSWER:
Tully's and Peets are very similar for the most part.
Tully's sumatra flavor is good though.Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts use the same exact bean from the same exact distributor. So if you can get dunkin' donuts cheaper....by all means.
Seattles Best is somewhere in the middle of Tully's, Peets, and Starbucks. Its a great middle ground coffee.
If your talking about those "Keurig" coffee machines. I have one and have done every combination possible.
Get yourself the reusable metal filter.
Press your ground coffee into the filter as tight as possible. If you can though please grind it yourself and store in a air tight container.

Never been to Cairns / Port Douglas before - what do I need to do and see while there?
Im staying in Port Douglas. Ill be there for 5 days. Want to get the most out of my trip - can anyone suggest some ideas that I shouldn't pass up while Im there?Thank you!
-
ANSWER:
If you're going at this time of the year you'll need to exercise extreme caution in the water because of marine stingers ...be guided by the tour guides.Other interesting things to do & see are take a boat trip to see crocs in the wild at the Daintree River , just 20 minutes drive north of the Port & continue on to Cape Tribulation for a look at the amazing rain forests .
Other options , Bungee jump at Kuranda just north of Cairns, white water raft at Tully , take a drive through the Atherton Tablelands & experience country hospitality at any of the craft /coffee shops along the way ... the amazing lakes in the volcano craters on the tableland are worth the trip.

QUESTION:
Where is a good place to get coffee in Seattle?I know its the home of Starbucks... but is that all they have. I can have Starbucks anywhere. I'm going there for the holidays and I need my coffee
-
ANSWER:
I love Tully's in Seattle. I think is better than Starbucks and Seattel's Best. I had tried all three while I was there, and found Tully's to be my favorite. I always order Non-fat Latte, and that is what I tried in all three. Of course I had tried Starbucks here at home, but just tried out the ones in Seattle to see if there it is any better. Tully's is the winner for me, even it is originated from Oregon. I love their Expresso beans....There are not too many Tully's like Seattle's Best and Starbucks..but just pay attention and you will see one.

QUESTION:
New Yorker considering moving to Seattle. How is the job & cost & living there?
To make a long story short I'm not happy in New York anymore & Seattle Washington & Portland Oregon are my 2 choices to move to. Any info will be appreciated.-
ANSWER:
I used to live in NYC ages ago. I miss the foods. ...I really like it here in Seattle. People are nicer here. They are more friendly, they care more about the environment, and you'll find the pace is more relaxed and clean. I don't have any huge desire to go back east except to visit family and friends. The cost of living is lower of course.Generally, any surrounding suburban areas of Seattle will cost you less to rent or own. ...I'm not sure if you are from NYC or upstate. If you are from NYC, then you will see there is no subway system convenience. This may force you to own a car if you don't live in an area with many conveniences. I know it's impractical to be from the Big Apple and be a car owner in most cases. You should be fine finding a job. I recommend to set up a resume and research which companies to apply to, and do it soon just to get some things lined up. A good web-site to check out is NWSource.com. It is everything Seattle, and very resourceful. Be sure to also check out individual company web-sites too.
I hope you like coffee. This area is passionate about their coffee. I have never seen a tiny little free-standing coffee "hut" drive-thru until I came to the Emerald City and its suburbs. Their coffee is just as good as the big guys. Don't be surprised if your neighborhood has 5 to 15 Starbucks; and that does not include competitors like Tullys, Seattle's Best, and any others around.
The climate here is misunderstood by most of the country. It can get damp. There is more light rain than downpours. New York may even have more occasional downpours. Just have that light-weight hooded waterproof jacket to be safe. The summers don't get very hot as often as NYC. It's no where as humid too, so that is a big relief. One thing that I am still adjusting to is almost all residential places do not have AC. Yes, no AC, but there is heat...hmmm. Anyway, it does snow, but I don't think it snows as much here compared to NYC. The one kicker in regards to the snow around here is the commute. Be patient, drive carefully, and give yourself plenty of time. For some reason, maybe for environmental reasons, the cities and neighborhoods are not too quick about plowing the roads, and I don't know if they believe in throwing salt on the ground to de-ice the roads...hmmm. I suggest a 4x4 for the winters and maybe live in neighborhoods that are not hilly. Of course, commuting by bus is a great alternative since the bus drivers do all the driving and you get to be on the carpool lane (or as they call it "HOV lane").
Well, I can't compare Portland to anywhere else for you, since I have not been there yet. Good luck in whatever you choose to do.

QUESTION:
What is the Coffee Capital in the World?-
ANSWER:
If you are talking about who produces the most coffee, Brazil wins that prize. Almost a third of all the world's coffee is produced, over 5 million people are employed in the cultivation and harvesting of over 3 billion coffee plants. If you are talking about who sells the most coffee, it has to be Seattle. Not only is Seattle the originating city of the largest coffee store Starbuck's (started at Pike Place Market), but also for Tully's Coffee and Seattle's Best Coffee (a.k.a. SBC).

QUESTION:
what is the economy like in Seattle,Washington?
is it easy to get a job there? Like a job to Subway or game stop. and also what is the minimum wage for adults?-
ANSWER:
Major companies I know of in the Seattle area are:*Microsoft
*Boeing
*Starbucks Coffee & Tully's Coffee
*Alaska Airlines & Horizon Air
*T-Mobile
*University of WashingtonMajor industries:
*Marine (recreational boating, commercial fishing, international trading i.e. container ships, cruise ships)
*Aviation (Both general and commercial, especially float planes)
*Banking/Financing & Insurance
*Seafood (supported by commercial fishing industry)Of course, there are a bunch more companies and industries in Seattle, but those are the major ones that come to mind when I think of Seattle.
Minimum wage in Washington state for the year 2012 is .04.
So, how easy is it to get a job there? That's a very broad question. It depends upon your previous work experience and what fields you are interested in. Overall, the economy has been quite good, even in tough times. Since you are concerned about minimum wage, I take it you probably have little to no work experience or higher education. Yes, there are quite a few Subways in Seattle. Not sure about Game Stop, though. However, there are overwhelming amounts of Starbucks coffee houses in Seattle, so I recommend finding a job at Starbucks. Someone once told me that there are over 250 Starbucks locations within a 5-mile radius of the Space Needle.
Hope this helps. Welcome to Seattle.

QUESTION:
I'm considering moving to Seattle. What should I know about the city before making my decision?
(And yes, I know about "Zombie Party" murders)Serious answers only. Thank you.
Answers from current or former Seattle residents only.-
ANSWER:
The Seattle area has a nice mix of city/rural, there are a lot of parks and outdoor activities, but if you prefer to be inside, there are always galleries, museums, concerts, dances, theatres, movies and indoor sporting events to attend. There are well maintained trails and bicyclists are abundant. There is an International Film Fest in May, cultural festivals on Memorial Day and Labor Day, and if you've got to get out of town, you can do it by plane, train, auto, taxi, bus, seaplane, hydrofoil, or ferry.Seattle celebrates almost every holiday since the population is quite diverse with a large influx of immigrants. Seattle is often on top 10 lists for being livible, healthy, literate, and we're pretty modest about it. There are about a half dozen 4-year universities nearby and probably 20 community colleges.
It used to smell like cooked green beans on the freeway as we drove past the Rainier Brewery, but now it belongs to Tully's coffee, so the aroma is a little more pungent.
There are actually fewer gray days and less rain in Seattle than Portland, but I still know 20 different ways to say liquid is falling from the sky.
And if that isn't enough - there are a bazillion places to go out to eat or drink.

Paper cup use in 2006 also accounted for 4 billion gallons of water wasted, 6.5 million trees cut down, and 4,884 billion BTU’s of energy used.
